Kansas Overcomes Full-Court Press, 2-3 Zone Defense To Beat Oklahoma State

Mar 11, 2011 1:08 AM

Kansas shot 35.9 percent from the field in one of its worst offensive showings of the season.

Confounded by Oklahoma State’s full-court press and 2-3 zone, guards Tyrel Reed and Brady Morningstar shot a combined 5-of-20 from the field.

It wasn’t until KU coach Bill Self went small and utilized 6-6 Mario Little at power forward that Kansas pulled away for good.

With the game tied at 60 and the final minute approaching, Little sliced to the center of the zone and accepted an entry pass, then spun hard into his right shoulder and banked in a lefty half-hook., icing a 63-62 win over the Cowboys.

Ray Penn To Transfer From Oklahoma State

Mar 6, 2011 9:30 PM

Ray Penn has decided to transfer from Oklahoma State.

Penn was suspended indefinitely by Travis Ford two weeks ago.

“He won't be coming back,” said Ford, who did not elaborate further.

Penn started 10 of the 27 games he played in this season, averaging 5.9 points and 2.1 assists a game.

Ford said Penn remains in school, working to remain eligible as he seeks a transfer.

“We have encouraged him to make sure that he continues,” attending class, Ford said. “He's told some people about possible places he may be headed.”

A logical destination for Penn could be Houston, where he is from and where former Cowboys'  assistant James Dickey  just completed his first season as coach.

OSU Shuts Down LaceDarius Dunn, Puts Dent In Baylor?s NCAA Hopes

Mar 2, 2011 10:23 AM

OSU forward LaceDarius Dunn needed just 12 points to become the Big 12's all-time leading scorer, but was held to 7 on 2-of-16 shooting in OSU’s 71-60 over Baylor on Tuesday night.

“You have got to credit them on great defense on Lace,” said Baylor coach Scott Drew, “2-for-16 is outstanding defense on him.
“We tried to drive and tried to get him to the free-throw line and unfortunately couldn't get him going that way, either.”

Perry Jones III shot just 2-for-8 from the field and finished with 10 points. Overall, the Bears shot just 35.2 percent from the floor.

Baylor, already on the bubble, fell to 18-11 and 7-8 in conference play.
